Following a creative passion since 2012.

About Phil Howarth:

I was born in Jersey, Channel Islands a small group of islands located in the English Channel, only nine miles from the French Coast and I love to paint land and seascapes of Jersey.

My interest for creating was nurtured by my passion for cooking in my first career, where I trained as a chef and qualified at Highlands College in Jersey, before moving to England, where I worked at a number of prestigious country house hotels and then moved to Claridges in London, where I was second in command of the patisserie department at the age of twenty and regularly cooked for the late Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Dianna together with the rich and famous. One day the Executive chef called me into his office and said that a dessert I had prepared for Princess Dianna was the best she had ever tasted!

After a number of years I decided it was time to travel the world, so I accepted a position on the Queen Elizabeth II Cruise liner. For the next three years I travelled the world, creating fine dining for royalty and the rich and famous, with one american food critic saying my fish dishes were the best in the world!  Following this, I spent a number of years in the far east and Japan.

Later in life, I switched career and moved into the finance industry, where I swapped my kitchen knife for a pen and instead of cooking for the Queen, I worked for her bankers; Coutts & Co for several years.  I remain in the finance industry to date.

Since 2012, I have discovered a passion for painting and am self-taught, painting in oils, acrylics and watercolours. This journey has been accelerated by the numerous online YouTube artists that offer brilliant teaching courses.

It’s been a fulfilling hobby and journey so far. As time allows, I hope to continue developing as an artist and commence exhibiting in the UK and further afield.
